Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year! We have many new families at the Academy and our excited to have you join our community. Each month your Board of Directors meets with the Administration to discuss the governance of the school. After the meetings a report is shared with the families of students, please reach out to any Board members with questions or concerns.
We are hopeful for a wonderful year!
Amelia Educational Foundation Board Report
August 2021
The Amelia Educational Foundation met on August 23, 2021 for their regularly scheduled monthly Board Meeting.
Head of School Report
The Board heard an update from Rodney Taylor, Head of the School. Mr. Taylor reported that we have had a great opening to the school year, welcoming many new families to the school. Thank you to Mr. Williams who worked extremely hard this summer to get the school ready for the new year.
Faculty & Staff
This year we welcomed back many of our long-term teachers and staff and are excited to have three new faculty. Please join the Board in welcoming, Miss Stuck, Mrs. Downey, and Mr. Womack.
Kelly Downey is our Kindergarten teacher. She is a graduate of James Madison University and has taught previously on the 1st grade/Kindergarten/Pre-Kindergarten levels. In addition, she was an Instructional Aide and Counselor. She loves our welcoming atmosphere and family first approach.
Meagan Stuck is also a graduate of James Madison University as she begins the year as our 4th grade teacher. Meagan comes to us from Winchester, where she taught at the Lower School level. Her academic passions include music and art. She fits right in with our Lower School faculty.
Marshall Womack is teaching Upper and Middle School students. After spending 30+ years as an executive in the banking industry, he began teaching and loves the profession. In addition to classroom instruction, he taught theatre and his students performed on stage, something we hope to provide to our community once the pandemic subsides.
Transportation
Thank you to Terri Flippen and Sherry Reynolds for organizing the bus routes for the school year. We have three buses that are transporting students to school. If you are interested in learning about the bus routes, please contact Mrs. Flippen.
The Carlisle School Scholarship Foundation
The Board wants to ensure that all students have an opportunity to attend the Academy. In addition to the scholarships offered by our generous donors and alumni, we formed a partnership with the Carlisle Foundation to offer scholarships to students in need. The Carlisle School Scholarship Foundation is part of the Education Improvement Scholarship Tax Credits (EISTC) program established by the Virginia Department of Education. The program offers donors a 65 percent state tax credit on top of any applicable deductions for charitable giving on their tax returns. As an approved scholarship foundation, The Carlisle School Scholarship Foundation uses tax-credit-derived funds to offer scholarships to students who wish to attend private schools within the Commonwealth. League of Parents and Teachers (LPT)
The LPT is looking for new members and there are leadership opportunities as well! The LPT has done a wonderful job developing events for families and fundraising to support the school. More information will be coming home soon in your students’ folders. Please consider volunteering your time to support the school. Thank you to Sarah Folliard for her leadership over the past two years.
