Lower School

Amelia Academy has a college-preparatory curriculum that begins with a sound foundational program for students in kindergarten through grade 5. The well-designed curriculum in phonics and reading allows for individual participation as well as expression in areas beyond the basic academic requirements.

Small, self-contained classes provide a structured environment and one-on-one teaching opportunities. Each class schedule is different to accommodate enrichment classes in physical education, computers, drama, library, art, hands-on science activities and religious/ethics studies.

Students also participate in an annual field day made possible through the Academy’s membership in the Association of Virginia Academics that adds to the physical education requirements and fun inside and outside the classroom. Local field trips help build students’ sense of community and civic responsibility.

Students in grade 5 change classes for several subjects to begin preparing them for the changes that come with middle school.
